Recently my brother who works as a school teacher in a district school and he was in for a surprise. The authorities demanded a clean criminal report from his side! He had just one doubt- What does a criminal background check consist of? Its not that he was guilty of any offense, but he was concerned since it meant insecurity about his job. There are many others like him who have to face a criminal verification procedure in the course of their job. Long time ago, we used to believe that such criminal reports are required only while applying for a job. The other day my landlord friend approached me asking- what does a criminal background check consist of? I was surprised at first since he never believed in such ‘useless stuff’. His tenant was defaulting on payments and threatened to attack my friend if he lodged a complaint against him. Now I knew why he was interested in knowing the intricacies of a criminal record verification. There are many more such cases happening these days regarding nannies, employees, health care workers or even teachers that emphasize the need to carry a criminal check on the person before giving him any sort of responsibility. It has been observed that those occupations that involve any sort of interaction with children or sick people must have a clear a criminal verification report.
